German Southwest Africa became a German Colony August 7, 1884. German stamps were used until 1897 when 1889 German stamps were overprinted with "Deutsch-Sudwest-Afrika" diagonally in black. |
#7-12 1898 "SWA" Stamps
In 1898 the overprint was changed, omitting the hyphen in "Sudwestafrika." The new stamps were valid until the first "Yacht" stamps were issued in 1901. |
#13-25 1901 Kaiser's Yacht
In 1901 stamps picturing the Kaiser's yacht, "Hohenzollern" were issued for Germany's colonies; typographed, engraved and without watermark. Values in Pfennig and Reichmarks. |
